Mica Tape
Micatex
Mica tape for thermal and electric insulation, recommended if strong fire and high temperature resistance are required.
Available in different versions depending on the type of mica: muscovite, phlogopite and synthetic.
MUSCOVITE MICATEX
It is made of paper with high quality calcined muscovite mica coating and non-alkaline glass fiber fabric as supporting layer, impregnated with heat-resistant silicone-based resins.
Manufactured with special technologies, it is an ideal solution for any kind of cable that needs high temperature resistance. The conductor, protected by silicone-based resin and mica, improves its thermal resistance.
During the production process the laminate is heated to improve its stability. Heating eliminates impurities and water crystallizations that affect dielectric force and high temperature resistance.
Due to its excellent properties, to which flexibility and the absence of halogen are to be added, this mica tape is the best solution for naval or nuclear cables, and in general for small diameter cables.
FLOGOPITE MICATEX
It is made of paper with high-density phlogopite mica coating and glass fiber fabric or PE film as supporting layer, impregnated with heat-resistant silicone-based resins.
Thickness being equal, phlogopite mica tape with glass fiber fabric has better fire-resistance properties than the one with PE film supporting layer due to the bigger quantity of mica, requires more attention during the ribboning process.
This product is largely used where a special attention to fire risk is needed, like skyscrapers, subways, underground roads, nuclear or electric power plants. Furthermore, the use of fireproof cables is fundamental in big industrial or mining plants and in fire prevention devices in emergency systems.
Thickness range goes from 80 μm to 150 μm.
Maximum temperature resistance is 800°C.
SYNTHETIC MICATEX
It is made of heat-resistant paper (synthetic mica) bonded to a glass fiber fabric as supporting layer. The laminate is impregnated with a silicone-based resin selected for its high temperature resistance.
Due to its excellent flame resistance, synthetic mica is widely used for power cables, control cables and instruments.
Due to its flexibility and tensile strength, this tape can be easily used with standard high-speed winding machines.
Maximum heat resistance exceeds 1100°C.
Because of halogen (fluorine) being present in synthetic mica, MICATEX muscovite is recommended instead of synthetic mica for halogen-free cables.
